Dear Visitors

Did you know that there are a great many things to do and see in and around the Lunenburg area? Please take a few minutes to read The Lunenburg Nova Scotia Tourist Menu—a document that reflects just a few of the “dishes” in our area (attached).

If you wish, Lunenburg can easily be your hub, and you can branch out in many directions—after spending time in Lunenburg and nearby Mahone Bay, a not-to-be-missed community of shoreline, the famous “three churches picture,” shops, a museum, and a variety of restaurants. Mahone Bay is just 10 km (6 miles) from Lunenburg. Lunenburg has two museums, great restaurants, fabulous art galleries, boat rides, walking tours, horse and buggy tours, and wonderful shopping.

Also from Lunenburg, you can reach Halifax in about 1 hour, Chester in 40 minutes, Peggy’s Cove in an hour, Annapolis Royal in about 1 ¾ hours, Liverpool in about 45 minutes, Shelburne in about 1 ½ hours, Kejimkujik in under an hour, and Bridgewater in about 20 minutes. Lunenburg is truly the center of the South Shore’s Lighthouse Route. Each of these areas has a wealth of photographic opportunities, wildlife, shopping, museums, and friendly Nova Scotia people. If you need any more information, just ask.

Directions

As you exit from the airport, get onto Route 102 going toward Halifax. At exit 5 (the next exit) there is a huge fork in the road, and both forks say Halifax. Follow the RIGHT fork that says Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, 102 South, to Route 103, etc. It’s now about 20 km (12 miles) from this exit to Exit 1A (Route 103 West, South Shore, Peggy’s Cove, Yarmouth). Or take the shortcut in the next paragraph.

SHORTCUT: A shortcut will be available in a few kilometers at Exit 3, Hammond’s Plains Road. This will be a two-lane road and will cut off a few miles for you. If you wish to take the shortcut, get off the 102 at Exit 3 and at the end of the ramp take a LEFT onto Route 213. Follow this for about 16 km (10 miles) until you come to a shopping complex on the right. There will be a RIGHT turn onto the 103 West just past the shopping center. Continue with the directions two paragraphs below.

Night driving? No shortcut wanted? Simply follow the 102 from the airport (take right fork at exit 5!) until you see a sign for the 103 West at Exit 1A. This exit will say South Shore, Peggy’s Cove, Yarmouth. Once on the 103, it is approximately 90 km (54 miles) to the turnoff to Lunenburg. Follow the directions in the next paragraph.

From Route 103 West, take Exit 11 to Lunenburg, turning LEFT at the end of the ramp onto Route 324 South. Follow 324 for a total of 11.7 km (7 miles) to its end (at the THIRD stop sign). Here are some approximate milestones for you:

First four-way stop .9 km (1/2 mile)
Second four-way stop 10.2 km (6.3 miles)
Fork in road: 10.3 km (6.4 miles) Choose RIGHT fork onto Green St.
Go up over the hill past the hospital and down the hill to the end of 324.
McKenzie Street 11.7 km (7.3 miles) At the bottom of the hill, just before the THIRD stop sign, take a LEFT onto McKenzie Street, then
turn immediately RIGHT into our parking area at back of our house—a large blue house with cream and purple trim
Third stop sign 11.8 km (you’ve just passed us—look left and there we are)

We sit at the intersections of Victoria Road (Route 3) at the front of the house, Green Street (Route 324) at the side of the house, and McKenzie Street (at the back of the house).

If you are coming from Bridgewater on Route 3 (Victoria Road), look for the Irving and Tim Horton’s on the left and the Save Easy with NSLC on the right as you get into the Town of Lunenburg area. Around the next curve you will actually see our house in front of you at the end of the street. Before driving into our living room window, turn LEFT onto Green Street and immediately RIGHT onto McKenzie Street and immediately RIGHT into our parking area.

If you are coming from Mahone Bay on Route 3, the road will dead end at route 332. Turn right onto 332 and go to the blinking red light at the four-way stop. Turn left onto route 324 (Green St.) and go (RIGHT) straight up over the hill (do not bear left at this fork). Coming down the other side of the hill you will see a stop sign in the distance. The house is on the left at the stop sign. Just before the stop sign, turn left on McKenzie St. and immediately turn right into our off-street parking at the back of the house.

PLEASE NOTE!!! All the pictures in older advertising brochures show us as having a green house. No more!! We have completed painting our house a beautiful bright blue with cream trim and purple doors and flower boxes. Also, we’ve just put in a flower garden on the hill on the Green Street (Route 324) side.

We are looking forward to your “sojourning with us”!
